PVC Water Stopper
A PVC water stopper is a flexible PVC strip embedded across a construction or expansion joint in concrete to stop water from tracking through the joint. It is cast into the concrete on both sides of the joint, forming a continuous, watertight barrier that keeps performing as the structure settles slightly or the concrete shrinks over time.
PVC water stoppers are specified wherever a concrete structure needs to hold back or contain water and the joint itself cannot be relied on to stay watertight — basements, tanks, dams, tunnels, and other below-ground or water-retaining construction. Sandhyaflex manufactures its PVC water stopper range to IS:15058-2002.
What is a PVC Water Stopper?
A PVC water stopper is a purpose-made PVC profile placed at a construction or expansion joint before concrete is poured, so that it becomes permanently embedded on both sides of the joint once the concrete cures. Its job is straightforward: prevent water seepage through the joint, in both directions, for the life of the structure.
Because concrete joints are a structure's weakest point against water ingress, PVC water stoppers are standard practice anywhere a below-ground or water-retaining structure needs a reliable, long-term seal — not just at the time of construction, but through years of hydrostatic pressure, minor structural movement, and weathering.
PVC Water Stopper Manufacturer in India
Sandhyaflex is a PVC water stopper manufacturer in India, producing PVC water stoppers for the construction, infrastructure, and industrial sectors. Sandhyaflex is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and its PVC water stopper range is manufactured to IS:15058-2002.
Product quality highlights:
- Durable performance — designed to remain functional across the structure's service life, without losing the flexibility needed to keep sealing the joint.
- Weather and corrosion resistance — suited to both buried and exposed installation conditions.
- Elasticity and tensile strength — retains the stretch and strength needed to accommodate minor joint movement without failing.
- Center bulb design — supports movement at the joint while maintaining the water seal.
Sandhyaflex supplies PVC water stoppers in black and white PVC across the documented widths and thicknesses set out in the sizes section below, for contractors, consultants, and procurement teams sourcing waterstops to a defined specification.
PVC Water Stopper Applications
PVC water stoppers from Sandhyaflex are used in:
- Basements — below-grade walls and slabs, particularly where groundwater sits close to or above floor level
- Water-retaining structures — tanks, reservoirs, retaining walls, and similar structures where any joint gap leads to continuous leakage under hydrostatic pressure
- Water tanks — see the dedicated section below
- Dams — large concrete pours with multiple construction and expansion joints
- Tunnels and underground construction — segment and construction joints subject to groundwater pressure
- Foundations and construction joints — general below-ground concrete work, raft slabs, and joint lines

PVC Water Stopper Installation
Installation should follow the approved project method and applicable manufacturer/project specifications. As general guidance, a PVC water stopper is typically positioned centrally or at the designed joint location, held in place so it stays correctly aligned during concrete placement, and protected from displacement or damage while concreting.
Detailed installation requirements — including welding parameters, fixing intervals, embedment depth, and joint dimensions — are project- and profile-specific and are not confirmed from the currently available technical documentation. Contact Sandhyaflex to confirm installation requirements for a specific project.
PVC Water Stopper for Water Tanks
PVC water stopper for water tank applications is one of the most common uses of the product, since a tank's construction joints are under sustained water pressure for the tank's entire service life. Selecting the right PVC water stopper for a water tank depends on the joint width, expected movement, and pressure conditions of the specific structure.
Contact Sandhyaflex to confirm the appropriate size and configuration for a water tank joint detail.
