Testing Procedure

Testing procedure of Carbon Black Test

Take approximately 0.3gm sample accurately weight. Cut in 0.5mm square size. Digest this sample in HNO3 (5ml) in a beaker on sand bath, gently. Filter the digest material on a filter paper, wash two times by cold water. Use double filter paper equally weight . Dry the filter papers with sample in Oven at 100 o C.

  • W1- Weight of empty filter paper.
  • W2- Weight of Filter paper + sample. In two different crucibles burn both the avow filter papers separately.
  • W3- Weight of Ash of Filter paper only
  • W4- Weight of Filter Paper + sample. Weight of carbon black in rubber sample= Weight of Dried sample- weight of ash in a filter paper.

Testing procedure of Column Weight of Carbon Black

Take 30.0g of Carbon black and 100.0g of Water in a beaker, and then perfect mix. Mix well and pour it in 100ml. measuring cylinder. Allow the settle for 24hours. Measure a “ Column Height: of the Carbon Black.

Testing procedure of Melting Point

Apparatus use: Melting Pint Apparatus, Thermometer, Sample material Sample size and Qty: Capillary Tube filled. Procedure: First fill the capillary tube with sample . Then insert in Melting Point Apparatus wth thermometer. Then look lance of Melting Point Apparatus the capillary tube and Thermometer at the time during testing. When melting start read the temperature of Thermometer. And record immediately which temperature will start the Melting of Sample in Capillary Tube.

Testing procedure of Moisture Content

Apparatus Used- Oven, Petridis, Weighing Balance, Desiccator.

Sample Qty: 5 to 10g.

Procedure

  • @ 105 o C for 2 hrs in Hot Oven.
  • W1- Weight of Petridis empty
  • W2- Weight of Petridis + Sample of Material.
  • W3- Weight of Petridis + Sample of Material after remove from Oven.

Calculation:

Moisture content= (W2 – w1) – (w3-w1)/(w2-w1)*100

Testing procedure of Ash Content

Apparatus Used- Muffle Furnace, Silica Crucible, Weighing,Balance, and Desiccator.

Sample Qty: 2-6g.

Procedure

@ 800 o C for 2 to 8 hrs in Muffle Furnace.

  • W1- Weight of Silica Crucible empty S
  • W2- Weight of Silica Crucible + Sample of Material.
  • W3- Weight of Silica Crucible + Ash after remove from Muffle Furnace.

Calculation:

Ash content= (W3 – w1)/(w2-w1)*100

Testing procedure of pH Value of Silica Powder

Take 50ml distilled Water and 5.0g Silica Powder in a beaker. Boil it for 3- 5Mintes. Cool the mixture. Filter the mixture with the help of filter paper. After filtration, take 10ml water in clean test tube (Water used obly after filtration process) Take 2-3 drops of pH indicator in the Test Tube. Match the colour with colour strip to find the pH value.

Testing procedure of pH Value

Apparatus use: Heater, Test Tube, Filter Paper, Keep, pH Indicator.

Sample Qty -2-5g

Procedure:

First take clean and Dry Beaker of 100ml. Then Fill the distil water 50ml. Then mix the sample 2 to 5g. Then Boil 5 to 10min on magnetic Heater. After Mix the sampler in boil Water Distil water. Then leave for cool at room temperature. Then passing the filter paper . After cooling transfer in test tube. Place the pH Indicator 2 to 4 drops in Tube ( transfer distil Water + Sample ).

After Change the color . Will find our pj Value colour. Second Method : Dip the ph Paper in test tube ( transfer Distil Water+sample) Find out the Color and match the pH value.

Testing procedure of Purity Test of Zinc Oxide

Take 1.0g approximately of Zinc Oxide (=W1) to mix with 100ml. Acetic acid heat in heater for 4-6 minutes. Do not boil and don’t let Ioverflow cool it.

After cooling, Filter solution with the help of filter paper (Note the weight of Filter paper (=W2). After filtration two three times filter with water.

Take filter paper with insoluble matter and keep in 100 o C to dry. After dry check the weight of Filter paper and insoluble matter (=W3)

Testing procedure of Solubility

Apparatus use:

2-5 g smple taken into test tube then add the required chemical liquid as per the lis (in 1:10 ratio) test tube and shake well. If the material is completely soluble in the liquid accept the material otherwise reject the same.

Testing procedure of Specific Gravity for Carbon Black

Method :

First take weight of Empty Measuring Cylinder. Then fill Carbon Black in Measuring Cylinder 95ml approx. For Filling the material shake the continue till fill the properly.

  • W1- Weight of Measuring Cylinder Weight.
  • W2. Weight of Sample (95ml Approx.)

Then take weight of another Measuring Cylinder. And Fill the Water 50ml apprx.

Then fill the first Measuring Cylinder by Water removing air bubble also till full the bottom of Measuring Cylinder.

Now measure the Balance Water in Second Measuring Cylinder.

Calculation :

Volume= Total level (to which place of Carbon Black-Total used of Water.

Weight of material= w2 - w1

  • Where W1 = Weight of measuring cylinder+ Material (Carbon Black)
  • W2 = Weight of empty measuring cylinder

Specific Gravity-= Weight of materials (Carbon Black) / Total Volume

Testing procedure of Specific Gravity for Silica Powder

Method :

Method A for Testing Pellets, Flakes or Powder

  • W2-Weight of Specific Bottle+ 2 to 5gm of specimen.
  • W3- Weight of Sample Bottle + Specimen +Liquid.
  • W4-Weight of Specific Bottle + Liquid.

Specific Gravity := W2-w1 / (w4 - w1)- (w1 - w2) x Specific Gravity of Liquid

Method B for Testing of Raw Rubber & Compound

Weight of Specimen in Air to the Weight of the Specimen in Liquid or Water.

  • W1 - Weight of The Specimen in Air
  • W2 – Weight of The Specimen in Liquid.

Specific Gravity:= -w1 / w1 - w2 x Specific Gravity of Liquid

Testing procedure of Spot Test

Outline of the Method- Test papers soaked with specific test solution are held over the rubber samples being heated. The cracked and volatiles fragments of rubber samples escape and impart characteristic colours to the spot paper.

3. Solution II- Dissolve 2.5g of benzedene dihydrochloride in a mixture of 500cm 3 methanol and 500 cm3 water . Add 10cm3 of aqueous dihydroquinone solution (0.1percent) Store in a brown bottle.

Test paper for Solution III- Dissolve 2.0gm of cupric acetate and 0.25gm of metanil yellow in 500cm 3 methanol . Soak filter papers in this solution, dry and cut into strips.

4.Solution IV-Add 5.0 g of yellow mercuric oxide to a mixture of 80 cm3 water and 15cm 3 concentrated sulphuric acid. Heat to boiling and continue heating till the solid completely dissolves. Cool to room Temperature and dilute to 100cm3.

Test paper for solution IV- blank Filter paper Strips.

5. Solution –V. – Dissolve 30 g Trichloroacetic acid with minimum of isopropanol and subsequently dilute to 100cm 3 with the same solvent.

(Caution- avoid contact with skin)
